Some of history’s most inspirational women will be celebrated in a new pop-powered musical which will receive its world premiere at the Mayflower Mast Studio in Southampton in the autumn.
Co-produced by Six’s Kenny Wax with MAST Mayflower Studios, Fantastically Great Women Who Changed The World will launch in Southampton on 6 November (until 20 November) before playing the Norwich Playhouse (23 November-5 December) and the Liverpool Playhouse (8 December 2021-2 January 2022).
Written by dramatist Chris Bush, the stage adaptation of Kate Pankhurst’s award-winning picture book features music by chart-topping songwriter Miranda Cooper. A descendant of suffragette Emmeline Pankhurst, Kate Pankhurst’s book offers a guide to some of the famous females who have helped shape the world. Historical figures featuring in the work include: Jane Austen, Marie Curie, Amelia Earhart, Frida Kahlo and Rosa Parks
The high-powered all-female creative team is completed by director Amy Hodge, choreographer Dannielle Lecointe, set and costume designer Joanna Scotcher, lighting designer Zoe Spurr and sound designer Carolyn Downing.
Commenting on the project, producer Kenny Wax said: “What a thrill to have assembled our own team of fantastically great women to create this incredible show. No one is more excited than me for the curtain to rise on that first performance. And what an honour to be opening at the MAST Mayflower Studios who are making a commitment to premiering such daring new work.”
