Strictly Come Dancing professional Joanne Clifton will play Marilyn Monroe in Norma Jeane the Musical which opens at south London’s LOST Theatre at the end of this month.
The dancer, who won the BBC TV show’s Christmas Special last year when she partnered Harry Judd, is a ballroom dancing champion whose recent work included the 2015 UK premiere of Irving Berlin’s Face the Music at Ye Olde Rose and Crown Theatre.
Sarah Rose Denton (Welcome to New York, Hard Rock Cafe) will appear alongside Clifton in the title role of Norma Jeane.
The cast of the KSW Productions and LOST Theatre production also includes Joseph Bader (Der Rosenkavalier, Royal Albert Hall); Darrie Gardner (Profumo the Musical, Waterloo East Theatre); Maggie Robson (A Catered Affair, London Theatre Workshop); Hugo Joss Catton (Annie Jr, Arts Theatre); Martin Rossen (An Inspector Calls, Richmond Theatre); John McInnes (Mandrake, Brockley Jack Theatre); Ruth Betteridge (Free as Air, Finborough Theatre) and Erica Martin, who is making her professional debut.
Bradley Richardson, James Andrews, Martyn Ian Davies and Jasmine Avis are in the ensemble cast.
The show, which is directed by Christopher Swann, has a book by TL Shannon with lyrics and music by Anton Mullan, Ali Isabella, Andy Street, David Martin, Mike Daniels, Geoff Cotton and Orna Klemen. Randy Smartnick serves as producer and assistant director.
Norma Jeane the Musical will run from 30 May until 18 June with a press night on the day which would have been Norma Jeane’s 90th birthday, 1 June.
