Actress Sarah Redmond steps in for Su Pollard in Side By Side By Sondheim at the Brockley Jack Studio Theatre
TV favourite Su Pollard has withdrawn from the 2015 London revival of Side By Side By Sondheim at the Brockley Jack Studio Theatre in south London due to a “sudden indisposition”. She has been replaced by actress Sarah Redmond who appeared in a previous staging of the revue in Singapore.
Speaking to WhatsOnStage, producer Thomas Attwood said: “Su Pollard was a delight to work with and brought an infectious energy into the rehearsal room. I’m very sorry that we cannot share this hard work with our audiences and wish her well.
“I am absolutely thrilled to welcome Sarah Redmond into our little company. Sarah’s huge experience as a performer and director in the West End makes her a wonderful addition to the 40th anniversary production.”
Also in the cast are Marianne Benedict (Women On the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, The Wizard of Oz and We Will Rock You) and Grant McConvey (highly commended at the Sondheim Society Student Performer of the Year)
The show, running from Tuesday 8 to Saturday 26 September, is directed by Elliot Clay, the artistic director of The AC Group. Choreography and musical staging is provided by Anthony Whiteman (Bye Bye Birdie – Ye Olde Rose & Crown Theatre, Spring Awakening – Lawrence Hall, In the Dead of Night – Landor and Bel Ami – Charing Cross Theatre).
Side By Side By Sondheim has a set design by Harriet Moar-Smith, sound by Jack Lord and lighting by Ben Jacobs.
The production will be narrated by one of the show’s original creators, Stuart Pedlar, who is also the show’s musical director. Pedlar has worked with Stephen Sondheim for more than 40 years and boasts credits such as the original London productions of A Little Night Music and Sweeney Todd.
