The hit Take That-inspired musical The Band will take a break from its record-breaking two-year tour to play a Christmas season at London’s Theatre Royal Haymarket.
The fastest-selling UK tour of all time with ticket sales of £20 million, the tour which launched last year at the Manchester Opera House, the venue where Take That first performed in 1992, is due to play 50 performances in London from 1 December until 12 January 2019.
Due to end its run at Hull’s New Theatre tomorrow (17 March), the Mamma Mia! style musical will break its tour for the London season after playing Belfast’s Grand Opera House in November. Following the festive 50 performances, the show will be back on the road beginning with a run at The Lowry, Salford from 16 January 2019.
Written by Tim Firth, Gary Barlow’s writing partner in his critically acclaimed foray into musical theatre, The Girls, The Band traces the lives of five 16-year-old girls united in their love for a 1990s boyband who are reunited 25 years later as 40-something women trying to fulfil their dream of meeting their heroes.
Featuring 14 Take That hits performed by the winners of the BBC TV talent search, Let It Shine, The Band is directed by Kim Gavin and Jack Ryder.
The show reunites Barlow and Firth with producers David Pugh and Dafydd Rogers, the team behind The Girls, and is co-produced by Barlow and bandmates Howard Donald, Mark Owen and Robbie Williams.
Co-director Gavin choreographs the production which has been designed by Jon Bausor with lighting design by Patrick Woodroffe, video design by Luke Halls and sound design by Terry Jardine and Nick Lidster.
