London’s 19th century Pleasure Gardens provide the inspiration for a new musical from Taggart creator and acclaimed playwright Glenn Chandler and composer Charles Miller.
Debuting at Above The Stag Theatre in South London close to the site of the historic park that provides the setting for the show, The Pleasure Garden – A Vauxhall Musical runs from 15 September until 17 October 2021.
Set in 1850, in the dying days of the gardens that had been the destination of choice for crowds of Londoners since the early 18th century, the latest musical from the team behind the critically acclaimed Fanny & Stella: The Shocking True Story will be directed by Fenton Gray.
Three recent graduates from the Royal Academy of Music, Sam Baumal, Jay Worley and Jonathan Harlaw will make their professional debuts in the production.
They will be joined by Ashleigh Harvey (making her British debut after playing leading musical theatre roles including Fanny Brice in Funny Girl in her native South Africa), Rory-Charlie Campbell (Cats West End), Bea Amora Wong (Sleepless: A Musical Romance, Troubadour Theatre), Jennie Jacobs (Iolanthe, UK tour) and Steve Watts (Chariots of Fire, Gielgud Theatre).
The production will be choreographed by Carole Todd, with musical direction by Aaron Clingham, set and costume design by David Shields and lighting by Jack Wills.
