Seiriol Davies’ new musical comedy Milky Peaks will finally receive its world premiere at the Emlyn Williams Theatre in April next year.
Presented by Theatr Clwyd, Áine Flanagan Productions and Seiriol Davies, the production which had been forced to close following its first technical rehearsal in March 2020, will now make its delayed debut from 1-22 April 2022 before playing tour dates across Wales.
Announcing the re-scheduled premiere season at Theatr Clwyd’s home in North Wales, artistic director Tamara Harvey said: “On 16 March 2020, Liam (executive director Liam Evans-Ford) and I walked into the Emlyn Williams Theatre with sinking hearts. The Milky Peaks company were just finishing their sound check – we had to tell them that the Prime Minister had advised everyone in the UK not to go to theatres and so we were sending our Milky Peaks team home.
“We asked if there was anything they wanted to do before they left – they asked to perform the first and last numbers from the show. Liam and I sat in the darkened auditorium, laughing and weeping in equal measure at this brilliant show that was suddenly in limbo. So it means more than we can say to be bringing it back to life now – the wildly funny and bitingly satirical world that Seiriol Davies and the company created all those months ago feels more vital than ever to share with our audiences here and across Wales.”
Written and composed by Davies, the story of the battle for the soul of a small town in the heart of Snowdonia was devised by Davies, Matthew Blake and Dylan Townley. Alex Swift will return to direct original cast members Davies, Blake, Townley and Sophie Winter, with further casting for the production to be announced.
The production’s creative team includes: designer Janet Bird, lighting designer Kevin Treacy, movement director Ewan Jones, assistant director Francesca Goodridge, with sound design and music production by Chris Bartholomew. Blake also serves as associate director on the production with Townley taking on a third job in the production as musical director.
