Three new musicals to be livestreamed from Southwark Playhouse

In December The Little theatre space at Southwark Playhouse will stop becoming a bar and host a mini-season of three musical live streams: The Fabulist Fox Sister on 4 and 5 December 2020, Public Domain on 11 and 12 December and Stay Awake, Jake on 18 and 19 December.

All tickets for the livestreams are virtual and available internationally – there will be no live audience in the space. This mini-season comes after the success of the Playhouse’s first livestream from The Little last month, Before After starring Rosalie Craig and Hadley Fraser, which was watched by over 3,000 people from 44 different countries across the world.

With music by Luke Bateman and book and lyrics by Michael Conley (co-creators of The Sorrows of Satan, The Little Beasts) The Fabulist Fox Sister is loosely inspired by the story of the Fox sisters – three 19th century New Yorkers associated with the early days of spiritualism.

The fully staged production, featuring Conley in the title role, will be directed by Adam Lenson with musical supervision by Tamara Saringer.

Written and performed by Francesca Forristal (P.S. I’m a Terrible Person) and Jordan Paul Clarke, Public Domain takes words spoken and typed on the internet in the past year to create a portrait of the digital world. Conceived specifically for multi-camera streaming, the live concert staging will be directed and produced by Lenson and will feature set and costume design by Libby Todd.

Tim Gilvin’s multi-award-winning one-act musical Stay Awake, Jake is a bold and innovative new musical that tells the story of one man’s journey across England’s deserted motorways in the middle of the night, as he drives from London to Carlisle to be reunited with his girlfriend Sofia.

The show won the S&S Award for best un-produced musical in 2014, and the VAULT Festival Origins Award for new writing in 2016. Directed by Grace Taylor, this new production features new songs and orchestrations for a four-piece band. Musical direction is by Tamara Saringer. Casting is to be announced.
