Reality TV personality Jess Wright will make her theatrical debut in new musical comedy Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.
Wright who first appeared on ITV2’s The Only Way Is Essex in 2010 will step into the role of Jocelyn in the touring production from early October, replacing former Emmerdale actress Stephanie Dooley (Creeped Out, CBBC) who will take on the role from 9 September until 7 October 2021.
Commenting on her casting in the show, Wright said: “I’m really excited. I’ve loved performing since I was little, and I’ve always wanted to be on stage. This show means a lot to me and the other girls since we were meant to do it last year. But now theatres are open again we’re finally getting our chance! It’s going to be a proper girl’s night out and everyone that comes along to join in the fun is going to have a blast!”
Presented by Red Entertainment in association with Stafford Gatehouse Theatre and The Place, Telford, Girls Just Wanna Have Fun is co-written by Julie Coombe and the show’s director John MacIsaac, the writers of comedy sketch show Hormonal Housewives. Launching at The Place in Telford on 9 September, the production will be choreographed by Hayley Jane Simmons with musical arrangements by Ross Johnson.
Wright will join a cast that includes former pop star Maureen Nolan (Blood Brothers, Footloose), X Factor series 4 finalist Niki Evans (Blood Brothers, Legally Blonde) and Olivier Award-winner Leanne Jones (Hairspray, The Three Little Pigs).
