UK’s child gardeners feature in Golden Toad Theatre’s new music video

Green-fingered children from across the country feature alongside West End stars Courtney Stapleton (Six) and Joe Griffiths-Brown (Hamilton) in a new music video released by Golden Toad Theatre.

The video is part of the theatre company’s lockdown efforts to keep youngsters entertained following the postponement of the touring interactive musical adaptation of Gillian Hibbs’ award-winning book Errol’s Garden.

Over the last few months stuck-at-home children have been encouraged to sing along with the interactive pop song recorded by Stapleton and Griffiths-Brown and share photographs and drawings of their garden creations. With over 25 different types of plants and flowers grown by the children, the music video record of their work has been released alongside two activity videos created by animator Lee Cooper.

Unveiling the video, Golden Toad’s co-directors Caroline Wigmore and Jennifer Green said: We were astounded by the joyful submissions we received from children across the country. It’s wonderful to see the results of so much passion for plants and fun with growing. Thank you to all our participants for your enthusiasm, singing, drawing and photo submissions. We hope that you enjoy being part of Errol’s music video with West End stars Joe Griffiths-Brown & Courtney Stapleton!”

Commenting on her involvement in the project, Stapleton said: “I wanted to be a part of Errol’s Garden because I was very much an outdoor child! I loved being outside getting dirty and having loads of fun. I think it’s important to encourage the children of today to enjoy the outdoors, and if we can teach them some sustainable ways to live while we’re at it then even better!

Griffiths-Brown added: “I enjoyed the idea of nature thriving in urban environments, and the creativity of children when making their dreams a reality made me want to be 10 all over again.”

Golden Toad Theatre’s tour of Errol’s Garden is due to resume in the spring/summer of 2021.
