A re-imagined version of Stephen Schwartz and Roger O Hirson’s Tony Award-winning musical Pippin will be the Christmas season production at London’s Upstairs at the Gatehouse.
Presented by Chromolume, the latest production from the team behind You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown and Road Show will play the Highgate Village venue from 11 December 2025 until 11 January 2026.
Directed and choreographed by Amanda Noar, the production’s creative team also includes associate director Isaac Bernier-Doyle, musical director Harry Style, set and costume designer Hannah Danson and producer Annlouise Butt (for Chromolume) with artwork by Sam Cannon.
Announcing the production, Upstairs at the Gatehouse’s executive director Butt and artistic director Bernier-Doyle said: “We love a non-traditional festive offering at the Gatehouse – shows that dazzle even as they disturb. Stephen Schwartz’s Pippin is just that: part fairy tale, part fever dream, a carnival of spectacle and unease. It’s a thrill to bring this cult classic back to the stage with all its smoke, sequins and sly seductions intact.”
The story of a young prince in search of true happiness, the musical was written by Roger O Hirson (Walking Happy, Broadway, A Woman Named Jackie, TV mini-series) with a score by Stephen Schwartz (Wicked, The Prince of Egypt). Pippin was originally produced on the Broadway stage in 1972 by Stuart Ostrow in a production directed by the legendary Bob Fosse. The 2013 Broadway revival directed by Diane Paulus won the Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical.
