A trio of West End favourites will feature in a new production of Maltby and Shire’s Starting Here, Starting Now which will be the first show to play the Waterloo East Theatre in 16 months.
Nikki Bentley (Wicked, Apollo Victoria), Gina Murray (Mamma Mia! Novello Theatre) and Noel Sullivan (School of Rock, Gillian Lynne Theatre) will star in the hit musical revue which will play a season at the London venue from 29 June until 18 July.
Announcing the reopening show, the popular venue’s founder and the production’s director Gerald Armin said: “It has been a tough year for the industry and at times I felt were never going to open again, but we have survived, and I can’t wait to welcome audiences through our doors again as we bring back live theatre to the heart of Waterloo!”
With lyrics by Richard Maltby, Jnr and music by David Shire, Starting Here, Starting Now is a chronicle of the changing emotions in romantic relationships from first kiss to final separation.
First produced at the Manhattan Theatre Club 40 years ago, the show opened off-Broadway in 1977 and was premiered in London in 1984 and later revised in 1993. The Grammy Award-nominated revue was the source of a number of distinctive songs including ‘Autumn’, ‘What About Today?’ and the title song ‘Starting Here, Starting Now’ which were recorded and performed by Barbra Streisand.
The Waterloo East production will feature musical direction by Inga Davis-Rutter.
