Former Coronation Street favourite Wendi Peters will star in a major new touring production of classic British musical Salad Days this autumn.
Presented by Regan de Wynter productions, director Bryan Hodgson’s re-imagining of the show which debuted in Bristol in 1954 will begin its UK tour to the Theatre Royal, Brighton from 5 to 8 September 2018. The tour will then visit Richmond, Coventry, Salford, Malvern, Winchester, Chesterfield, Salisbury, Exeter, Bridlington, and Guildford.
Peters, whose stage credits include State Fair at Cadogan Hall, and the national tour of Oh, What a Lovely War!, will play Lady Raeburn/Aunt Prue in Hodgon’s version of the show which played London’s Union Theatre last year.
Commenting on the tour, Hodgson said: “I am thrilled to be able to stage Salad Days again this autumn – it serves as one of the greatest romps in musical theatre history and really brings us a timeless sense of enjoyment and nonsense, which is always welcome in counteracting the sometimes overwhelming seriousness of today.
“With the fabulous Wendi Peters joining the cast too, it will simply be a fun and delightful evening out, and I cannot wait to get the magic piano and spaceship ready for its latest trip around the charming British countryside!”
Peters will join: Mark Anderson, Jessica Croll, James Gulliford, Francesca Pim, Megan Armstrong, Jon Osbaldeston, Jay Worthy, Maeve Byrne, Nathan Elwick, Lewis McBean, Callum Evans, Ashlee Young, Valerie Cutko, Dan Smith, Victoria Nicol and Bradley Judge
Originally written as a summer musical for the Bristol Old Vic’s resident company, Salad Days features music by Julian Slade and lyrics by Slade and Dorothy Reynolds.
Taking its title from a line in Shakespeare’s Anthony and Cleopatra, the musical focuses on two students, who following graduation take on the job of looking after a piano in the park for the summer.
Hodgson heads a creative team that includes: choreographer Joanne McShane; musical director Elliot Styche; with costume and set design by Mike Lees; lighting design by Tim Deiling, and sound design by Tony Gayle Audio. The casting director is Adam Braham and the tour is produced by Regan De Wynter Williams.
