Lockdown was a challenging time for a host of performers, but that didn’t stop West End actor and ‘BBC Voice of Musical Theatre’ Tom Solomon being creative. In fact, during those quiet months Tom recorded brand new album Musicals, Vol. 1, due for release on 10 December 2021 but available now for preorder on iTunes. It’s the perfect stocking filler for Christmas!
The album is actually released on the same day as the new movie of West Side Story and includes a jazz style version of ‘Maria’. Other songs include ‘Anthem’ (Chess), ‘Love Changes Everything’ (Aspects of Love), ‘Some Enchanted Evening’ (South Pacific) and ‘Bring Him Home’ (Les Misérables).
Speaking about the album, Tom says:
“These past two years have been so difficult for everyone and so during lockdown I set myself a project. I decided I would spend the next year in the studio, recording three or four musical theatre albums. Musicals, Vol. 1 is the first result and includes eight songs that some would call the classics.”
The award-winning performer has appeared in many West End and international productions including: West Side Story, Chess, Chicago, Scrooge, Les Misérables, Into the Woods, Hello, Dolly!, Side By Side By Sondheim and The Phantom of the Opera. He made his New York debut in The Enchanted Pig and created the leading role of William Hogarth in the Royal Opera House production Pleasure’s Progress.
Tom regularly performs as guest soloist with some of the world’s greatest orchestras including: The Hallé Orchestra, RTÉ Concert Orchestra and BBC Concert Orchestra alongside acclaimed conductors John Wilson and Stephen Bell.
He recently performed for HRH Prince Edward at Windsor Castle, opposite Clare Teal at the Chichester Festival Theatre, alongside Shona Lindsay and Glyn Kerslake at The Broadway Arts Festival and a live broadcast for the BBC Radio 2 50th Anniversary Concert hosted by the wonderful Ken Bruce.
Tom’s previous double album release Beautiful Day went straight to No. 1 on the iTunes Classical Chart and features 28 popular songs that cross the classical and pop genres.
