Les Misérables’ current Valjean Dean Chisnall, The Phantom of the Opera’s latest Christine, Kelly Mathieson, and the cast of hit show Six were on hand to mark the unveiling of a new theatre mural in Leicester Square this week.
Commissioned by the Society of London Theatre, the artwork which features images of historic theatres, famous faces and characters from current and upcoming productions will be on display across the north-facing wall of the TKTS ticket booth in the heart of the West End.
Designed by illustrator Rob Cowan, the mural will remain in place until 30 August 2019 and theatre fans will also be able to enjoy a detailed look at the artwork by visiting the Official London Theatre website. Fans are invited to search for hidden characters by clicking the interactive version and every character discovered earns participants one entry into a prize draw for £500 of Theatre Tokens. The tokens can be used to buy tickets at TKTS and in over 250 theatres nationwide.
Describing his work, London artist Cowan said: “Designing and creating a mural of London’s beloved West End has been challenging but rewarding – and I hope visitors to the TKTS booth in Leicester Square have as much fun finding their favourite theatres, show characters and industry figures as I did drawing them.
“I wanted to create something that reflected the bustling atmosphere of the West End and surrounding area, and celebrated the unparalleled diversity and creativity of this city’s theatre landscape.”
