Waterloo East will present the European premiere of Off-Broadway musical A Letter to Harvey Milk – The Musical for a limited season this summer.
Running from 9 June until 3 July 2022, the production which will be directed by Gerald Armin will star West End veterans Barry James (Les Misérables, Phantom of the Opera, Cabaret, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) and Carol Ball (The Addams Family, Flashdance, Follies, 42nd Street).
The cast will also include Rebecca Levy (Mamma Mia! The Party), Joshua Anthony-Jones (Elegies), Harry Winchester (Three Little Pigs) and recent graduates Josselyn Ryder and Christopher Dodd.
Commenting on the production, director Armin said: “I am thrilled to be able to bring this show to the UK for the very first time after first hearing the score back in 2012 at the NYMF (New York Musical Theatre Festival) and following its journey to its Off-Broadway success. And now London audiences will get to see it starring two familiar faces of the West End.”
The creative team for the production also includes musical director Olivia Zacharia, lighting designer Jonathan Simpson, designer Emily Barker and company stage manager Gareth McLeod with casting by Andrew Lynford.
Based on a short story by Lesléa Newman, A Letter to Harvey Milk – The Musical features lyrics by Laura I. Kramer, additional lyrics by Cheryl Stern, music by Ellen M. Schwartz, with the book by Schwartz, Stern, Kramer and Jerry James.
Set in 1980s San Francisco, the musical premiered at the New York Musical Theatre Festival in 2012.
