West End stars feature in Crazy Coqs’ reopening plans

Sophie-Louise Dann, Dominic Ferris, Ria Jones and Cassidy Janson will be among the line-up of artists to feature in the reopening programme at London’s Crazy Coqs from 17 May 2021.

Subject to the Government’s ability to stick to its proposed roadmap to recovery, the popular venue within the Brasserie Zédel complex in Soho has announced a full programme of live and live-stream shows running from 17 May until 30 June.

The live shows will be performed to a reduced capacity audience with a socially distanced seating plan, where the front row is at least two metres from the stage, and all table groupings are at least one metre apart. There will be a maximum of three performers on stage to maintain social distancing. Customers will be invited to purchase tables, rather than individual tickets, to comply with the ‘reduced social bubble’ Government advice.

Current Government guidelines suggest that the venue will be able to revert to its full capacity of 80 seats from 21 June. However, shows will be sold at reduced capacity until confirmation of the 21 June date.

The spring programme will open with the return of Joe Stilgoe & Friends (17, 19, 20, 21 and 22 May at 7pm and 18, 20 and 21 May at 9pm). The popular singer/songwriter will be joined by Hadley Fraser, Le Gateau Chocolat, The Puppini Sisters, Louise Dearman, Rebecca Trehearn, Adrian Cox, Guy Barker and Katie Birtill.

Highlights of the new season will also include pianist Dominic Ferris’ first post-lockdown live performances of his show The Piano Player To The Stars. The two shows put the spotlight on Ferris’ eclectic musical influences ranging from George Gershwin to Billy Joel and Elton John and will also include music and stories related to his recent recording projects including his collaboration last year with Shirley Bassey.

A strong line-up of cabaret shows will feature a number of musical theatre favourites including West End leading lady Ria Jones (Sunset Boulevard, Evita) who take centre stage in As If We Never Said Goodbye – a musical journey through a career that spans nearly four decades while another actress who hit the headlines for stepping into a leading role, Steph Parry (42nd Street, Mamma Mia!) will tell the story of ‘the girl who ran down the road’.

Olivier Award winner Cassidy Janson (& Juliet, Beautiful: The Carole King Musical) will perform ‘unplugged’ versions of favourite songs from performers including Carole King and Lady Gaga as well as her own compositions. Olivier Award-nominee Sophie-Louise Dann (Made In Dagenham, The Girls) will celebrate the Great British Musical in Sophie-Louise Dann: May I Have A Moment?

Marisha Wallace (Waitress, Dreamgirls) will perform a selection of songs form her 2020-released debut album Tomorrow and classic pop and soul numbers in a one-off intimate show in June while Olivier Award nominee and award-winning cabaret artist Alison Jiear (Jerry Springer The Opera, On The Town) will return for an eclectic evening of cabaret.

Other genre highlights in the programme include a celebration of Broadway and West End favourites by award-winning Hamilton star Sifiso Mazibuko and Hamilton associate musical director Chris Hatt.
