The multi-award-winning Broadway hit Stereophonic will follow its extended New York run by transferring to the West End in May.
Featuring original songs by Oscar nominee and Grammy Award-winner, Arcade Fire’s Will Butler, David Adjmi’s hit play will arrive in London after completing a Broadway run that was extended twice and recouped its backers’ investment.
Directed by Tony Award-winner Daniel Aukin, the 1970s-set story of a rock band on the verge of a breakthrough or a break-up which will play the Duke of York’s Theatre from 24 May until 20 September, will feature original cast members Andrew R Butler, Tony nominee Eli Gelb and Chris Stack.
The most Tony-nominated play in the awards’ history, the production was nominated for 13 awards, winning five – Best Play, Best Performance by a Featured Actor in a Play for Will Brill, Best Direction of a Play for Daniel Aukin, Best Scenic Design of a Play for David Zinn and Best Sound Design of a Play for Ryan Rumery.
Stereophonic originally received its world premiere at Playwrights Horizon in New York before transferring to Broadway in April 2024. The play will embark on a US tour in October.
The creative team also includes David Zinn (scenic designer), Enver Chakartash (costume designer), Jiyoun Chang (lighting designer), Will Butler and Justin Craig (orchestrations), Ryan Rumery (sound designer), Justin Craig (music director) and Robert Pickens and Katie Gell (hair and wig design). UK casting is by Julia Horan with US Casting by Alaine Alldaffer, Lisa Donadio and Taylor Williams.
