EastEnders bad boy Aaron Sidwell will head out of Albert Square and into the role of Fiyero in the touring version of the smash hit musical Wicked which is due to make a welcome return to the UK next February to play ten UK and Ireland cities.
Sidwell, who is due to end his current run in the role of Steven Beale in the BBC soap later this year, has previously appeared in a number of musical theatre productions including American Idiot at London’s Arts Theatre and Loserville The Musical at the West Yorkshire Playhouse and in the West End.
A smash hit at venues across the world, the tour played its last UK dates at the Bradford Alhambra Theatre in July 2016 before embarking on an international leg of the tour which began in Singapore.
The show will play the Bristol Hippodrome from 5 February until 3 March 2018 followed by the Liverpool Empire (7-31 March); Birmingham Hippodrome (4-29 April Edinburgh Playhouse (8 May-9 June); Leeds Grand Theatre (13 June-7 July); Dublin’s Bord Gáis Energy Theatre (17 July-26 August); Sunderland Empire (4-29 September); Southampton Mayflower Theatre (3-27 October); Wales Millennium Centre, Cardiff (31 October-Saturday 24 November) and Palace Theatre, Manchester (4 December 2018 to 5 January 2019).
While Sidwell is scheduled to appear at all venues, details of the full UK/Ireland tour cast will not be announced until next month.
Based on the best-seller by Gregory Maguire which took its inspiration from the creations of L. Frank Baum brought so vividly to life in the classic movie The Wizard of Oz, the production continues its open-ended West End run at the Apollo Victoria Theatre.
Now the 16th longest-running show in London theatre history, Wicked is celebrating its 11th year at the Apollo Victoria Theatre. Wicked has now been seen by more than 50 million people in 15 countries, and won over 100 major awards (including three Tony Awards; six Drama Desk Awards on Broadway; two Olivier Audience Awards; nine WhatsOnStage Awards; an Evening Standard Theatre Award; six Helpmann Awards in Australia; and a Grammy Award).
Wicked has music and lyrics by multi Grammy and Academy Award winner Stephen Schwartz (Disney’s Pocahontas and The Hunchback of Notre Dame) was adapted for the stage by Winnie Holzman. Musical staging is by double Tony Award-winner Joe Mantello.
Wicked is produced around the world by Marc Platt, Universal Stage Productions, The Araca Group, Jon B. Platt and David Stone. The executive producer (UK/International tour) is Michael McCabe.
