Filipino actress Shaira Rica Opsimar has been judged the winner of an online music contest organised by the team behind new musical Vanara.
Opsimar was chosen from hundreds of online entrants as the winner of a prize that includes cash and merchandise from the musical which producers hope to open in London in 2021.
The online competition received over 100,000 views and 15 candidates were shortlisted through a public vote before a jury of industry creatives selected Opsimar as the winner. Further online contests are planned.
Opsimar’s winning cover of ‘Prayer to the Moon’ can be viewed on the musical’s Facebook page.
Produced by Giovanna Romagnoli, the epic futuristic tale of warring tribes features music by Gianluca Cucchiara, lyrics by Andrew James Whelan and a book by Michael Conley. The musical was first workshopped in 2017.
A concept album featuring Eva Noblezada, Carrie Hope Fletcher, Rob Houchen, Francis Ruffelle and Madalena Alberto is available on Spotify, iTunes and all major digital platforms.
