Winners revealed for The Curtain Up Show Album of the Year 2017

With over 17,000 votes cast, the winners have been announced for The Curtain Up Show Album of the Year 2017 in association with TodayTix.

Dreamgirls, currently in its second year at the Savoy Theatre, wins Best UK Cast Recording, whilst Dear Evan Hansen, currently playing at the Music Box Theatre on Broadway, and rumoured to be opening in London this year, wins Best American Cast Recording.

Meanwhile, Collabro’s Home scoops Best Solo Album.

The winners were revealed live on The Curtain Up Show on Resonance FM by Tim McArthur and Nathan Matthews in the first episode of the weekly chat show’s 17th series.

McArthur and Matthews said: “We’re delighted by the phenomenal response with the voting. It was hard enough whittling it down to just six nominees for each category, so we’re just glad that the final decision was left to our listeners. That’s the hard job!

Dreamgirls is one of the most visually stunning musicals currently playing in London. The Original London Cast Recording, featuring a wonderful score by Henry Krieger, captures perfectly the essence of the production.

Dear Evan Hansen is a quite simply a cultural phenomenon. We were lucky enough to see the production on Broadway last year and were utterly blown away by Ben Platt and the entire company. We just know that London audiences are going to love this show when it (eventually) makes its way across the pond. Benj Pasek and Justin Paul are miracle workers. They’ve created a musical masterpiece, and if you’ve seen their latest work (The Greatest Showman) you’ll know they’re certainly not one trick ponies!

“Collabro just keep going from strength to strength. Their third studio album, Home, is a love letter to some of the greatest musical theatre songs of all time. We can’t wait to hear what their next album has in store.”

The London production of Dreamgirls currently stars Marisha Wallace, Moya Angela and Karen Mav as Effie White, alongside Brennyn Lark as Deena Jones and Asmeret Ghebremichael as Lorrell Robinson.

The Broadway production of Dear Evan Hansen currently stars Noah Galvin as Evan. Taylor Trensch, currently starring in Hello, Dolly!, takes over the title role from 6 February.

Collabro is the world’s most successful musical theatre group. They won Britain’s Got Talent in 2014 and have gone on to record three studio albums.
