World premiere of new musical Bloody Mary and the Nine Day Queen opens at the Union Theatre

Initial casting has been announced for the world premiere of new musical Bloody Mary and the Nine Day Queen: Cezarah Bonner (The King and I, Miss Saigon) as Mary and Anna Unwin (Aspects of Love, I Should Be So Lucky) as Jane.

The world premiere of Bloody Mary and the Nine Day Queen by Gareth Hides with Anna Unwin, directed by Adam Stone, tells the story of two Queens: Bloody Mary and her 17-year-old cousin, Lady Jane Grey. The production runs from 21-29 October at London’s Union Theatre. Tickets are on sale now!

Set during a time of political and economic upheaval following the death of Henry VIII, and with the teenage King Edward VI on the throne, the power-hungry Duke of Northumberland lurks in the background – willing to do whatever it takes to maintain control.

This tragic, original musical explores timeless themes of family, power, faith, and the forces that bind or break us. It’s a bold new work that asks urgent questions about identity and purpose: What are you living for? And what would you be willing to die for? Serious in tone but laced with moments of humour, this production offers a compelling and accessible take on a lesser-known chapter in Tudor history.

Bloody Mary and the Nine Day Queen is presented by Handiwork Productions.
