Blackpool Opera House will follow up its Christmas in Neverland by taking festive audiences over the rainbow to Oz in 2018.
With Peter Pan featuring female Captain Hook Jennifer Ellison having just said farewell to audiences, tickets are already on sale for the seaside venue’s next festive musical The Wizard of Oz which will run from Friday 7 until Sunday 30 December.
Presented by the award-winning Selladoor family, the producers behind a string of hit shows including James and the Giant Peach, Seussical and The Owl and the Pussycat, the family-friendly version of the classic story of Dorothy’s magical adventure was originally adapted by John Kane for the Royal Shakespeare Company.
Announcing the production, David Hutchinson, Selladoor executive creative producer, said: “Bringing this RSC version of The Wizard of Oz to the Opera House in 2018 marks the second year in our partnership with the Winter Gardens, to share another classic family story on stage during the festive season.
“Once again, we’re delighted to be working alongside the team at the Winter Gardens to create an exciting musical theatre experience for the whole family and introduce many youngsters to theatre for the very first time.”
A spokesperson from Blackpool Opera House added: “The Wizard of Oz is such a universally loved show that we really couldn’t think of a more perfect title for our second Christmas outing from Selladoor.
“We can’t wait to get to work on the project and replicate the same success of 2017 Selladoor shows such as Flashdance and of course Peter Pan. We’re confident that the incredible RSC version of this iconic musical will bring joy to all of Blackpool as it’s a show that everyone from grandparents to grandchildren will embrace.”
