CherAnn & Co showcased the classic songs of Disney and animated classic movies with an afternoon of cabaret.
The performers in the spotlight – CherAnn Thorkilsen, Jennie Neumann, Rebecca Kintoff and Leanne Coupland – took audience members back to their childhoods with Disney hits including The Little Mermaid’s ‘Part of Your World’, Toy Story’s ‘When She Loved Me’ and The Lion King’s ‘Circle of Life’.
Not only did we hear songs from the classics, but there were also contemporary hits such as ‘Let It Go’ (Frozen) and Moana’s ‘How Far I’ll Go’.
The core cast also had the pleasure of introducing guest acts, Chris Gannon, Christy Bowyer, Ericka Posadas, Ellis Dackombe and Melissa Cavanagh, who performed some of their favourite songs from the films.
While listening to these popular songs sung so beautifully by these artists, the songs begin to have a whole new meaning. As every word is so eloquently sung, it demonstrates how intellectual and emotional many of these childhood films really are.
It feel as if the lyrics of these songs are under-appreciated until listened to live in such an intimate setting (with the accompaniment led by musical director Jordan Li-Smith), and this was the way CherAnn & Co engaged the audience so well.
The rendition of the ‘A-Z of Disney Songs’ had the audience laughing, singing and tapping their toes. Unfortunately, there was not enough room for dancing!
The concert also held greater meaning as all proceeds went towards YoungMinds, the UK’s leading charity committed to improving the emotional wellbeing and mental health of children and young people.
