Hampstead Theatre has announced the full company joining Sharon D. Clarke for Tony Kushner and Jeanine Tesori’s Caroline, Or Change which is due to open next month following its successful run last year at the Chichester Festival Theatre.

Clarke, who will reprise her acclaimed performance in the title role, will be joined by Naana Agyei-Ampuda, Alastair Brookshaw, Angela Caesar, Me’sha Bryan, Sue Kelvin, Teddy Kempner, Ako Mitchell, Abiona Omonua, Vincent Pirillo, Carole Stennett, Sharon Rose, Lauren Ward and T’Shan Williams.

Directed by Michael Longhurst, the production is designed by Fly Davis, with choreography by Ann Yee, musical direction by Nigel Lilley, lighting by Jack Knowles, sound by Paul Arditti, casting by Charlotte Sutton CDG and children’s casting by Debbie O’Brien.

The musical, which mixes blues, souls, Motown, classical music and Jewish folk song in a tale set in momentous times in 1960s Louisiana, was one of the highlights of artistic director Daniel Evans and executive director Rachel Tackley’s first season at the Chichester Festival Theatre.

Although the original 2004 Broadway production of Caroline, Or Change was re-staged at the National Theatre in 2006 and went on to win the Olivier Award for Best New Musical, Chichester’s version was the first new UK production.

Caroline, Or Change will play Hampstead Theatre from 12 March until 21 April with the press night on 19 March.
