Karl Queensborough is the new West End Hamilton from November 2019

Karl Queensborough will step into the role of Alexander Hamilton next month as the multi-award-winning Hamilton enters its third year at the Victoria Palace Theatre.

Currently performing as the alternate Hamilton in the London production, Queensborough (The Girl From the North Country, The Old Vic) will take over the role full-time from 18 November 2019. He will step up to the title role alongside Allyson Ava-Brown (Les Misérables, Queen’s Theatre) and Jason Pennycooke (Kiss Me, Kate, The Old Vic) who will continue in the roles of Angelica Schuyler and Marquis de Lafayette.

They will be joined by: Emilie Louise Israel (The Magic of Motown UK tour) who will make her West End debut as Peggy Schuyler/Maria Reynolds; Trevor Dion Nicholas (Aladdin, Prince Edward Theatre) as George Washington; Simon-Anthony Rhoden (The Color Purple, Leicester Curve) as Aaron Burr; Sharon Rose (Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, Aldwych Theatre) as Eliza Hamilton; Emile Ruddock (Me and My Girl, Chichester Festival Theatre) as Hercules Mulligan/James Madison; and Carl Spencer (Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, London Palladium) as John Laurens/Philip Hamilton.

Now booking until 28 March 2020, the production will feature a new King George, with Gavin Spokes (Company, Gielgud Theatre) stepping into the role from 4 November while Nuno Queimado (Jesus Christ Superstar, Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre) will play Alexander Hamilton at certain performances.

The cast will also include: Jade Albertsen, Curtis Angus, Robson Broad, Ashley Daniels, Lisa Darnell, Kelly Downing, Lydia Fraser, Dujonna Gift-Simms, Manaia Glassey-Ohlson, Joe Griffiths-Brown, Gregory Haney, Peter Houston, Barney Hudson, DeAngelo Jones, Jake Halsey-Jones, Phoebe Liberty Jones, Travis Kerry, Natasha Leaver, Aaron Lee Lambert, Sinead Long, Louis Mackrodt, Jay Perry, Alexzandra Sarmiento and Lindsey Tierney.

Earmarked by Cameron Mackintosh as the perfect production to launch his multi-million-pound refurbishment of the Victoria Palace Theatre Lin-Manuel Miranda’s hip-hop flavoured show was one of 2017’s most eagerly-anticipated West End premieres.

Heavily tipped from its Broadway opening night as a leading awards winner, Hamilton banked the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the 2016 Grammy for Best Musical Theater Album before adding a stunning 11 Tony Awards including the award for Best Musical to its trophy cabinet.

Still playing to sell-out crowds on Broadway, Miranda’s tale of one of America’s founding fathers debuted Off-Broadway in February 2015 where it secured the piece’s first gong, the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Musical.

With the successful US tour and the Chicago production continuing, Hamilton will make its Australian premiere at the Sydney Lyric Theatre in March 2021. In January this year Lin-Manuel Miranda reprised the title role in Puerto Rico and in February a production opened in San Francisco.

The show which has book, music and lyrics by Miranda, is directed by Thomas Kail, with choreography by Andy Blankenbuehler and musical direction and orchestrations by Alex Lacamoire, and is based on Ron Chernow’s biography of Alexander Hamilton. Hamilton features scenic design by David Korins, costume design by Paul Tazewell, lighting design by Howell Binkley, sound design by Nevin Steinberg and hair and wig design by Charles G. Lapointe.
