Jack Butterworth will step into the role of dance king Jerry Travers in The Mill At Sonning’s eagerly-anticipated new stage version of the classic 1935 film musical Top Hat.
The actor who won rave reviews for his performance as Bobby van Husen in the Menier Chocolate Factory’s 2019 production of The Boyfriend and played Samuel Seabury in the original West End cast of Hamilton will star opposite Billie-Kay (42nd Street, West End) as socialite Dale Tremont.
They will be joined by Brendan Cull (The Book of Mormon, West End) who will return to The Mill after appearing in the venue’s hit production of Singin’ in the Rain, Tiffany Graves (Chicago, West End), Paul Kemble (School of Rock, West End) and Delme Thomas who returns to The Mill after appearing in Move Over Mrs Markham! and Run For Your Wife.
Award-winning director Jonathan O’Boyle’s new production of Top Hat which will be the final production of 2021 at the distinctive Thameside venue. Following on from popular Christmas season productions of Guys and Dolls and an innovative version of Singin’ in the Rain, Top Hat will play its festive season from 18 October 2021 until 10 January 2022.
O’Boyle heads a creative team that includes the choreographer of The Mill’s Singin’ in the Rain Ashley Nottingham, set designer Jason Denvir, sound designer Chris Whybrow, musical arranger Francis Goodhand, musical director Chris Poon and lighting designer Nic Farman.
The Mill at Sonning prides itself on offering customers a unique dinner-theatre experience. Every ticket at The Mill includes a home-cooked pre-show two-course meal in the recently refurbished riverside restaurant overlooking the River Thames.
Featuring the timeless music of Irving Berlin and based on the screenplay by Dwight Taylor and Allan Scott, the musical version of the much-loved RKO musical comedy features a book by Matthew White and Howard Jacques.
The most successful film to feature the partnership of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, Top Hat tells the story of Broadway sensation Jerry Travers and his efforts to win the heart of society girl Dale Tremont and includes Berlin classics including ‘Puttin’ on the Ritz’, ‘Cheek to Cheek’, ‘Isn’t This A Lovely Day’ and ‘Top Hat, White Tie and Tails’.
