Stage and screen star Ute Lemper will bring her personal tribute to Hollywood legend Marlene Dietrich back to London this summer.
Created and performed by the multi-award-winning Broadway and West End actress and recording artist, Ute Lemper: Rendezvous With Marlene will play Cadogan Hall on 18 June 2022.
Based on her own telephone encounter with the Hollywood icon 30 years ago, Lemper’s critically acclaimed Rendezvous With Marlene takes the form of a conversation between Dietrich and Lemper about Dietrich’s career and personal life and includes performances of the songs most closely associated with Dietrich.
The set list includes Pete Seeger’s ‘Where Have All Flowers Gone’, Harold Arlen and Johnny Mercer’s ‘One For My Baby’, Cole Porter’s ‘Laziest Gal In Town’ and Friedrich Hollaender’s ‘Falling in Love Again’.
Commenting on her show: “Rendezvous With Marlene means a lot to me – it is my personal homage to that great lady. There are many portraits of Marlene out there, but this one is coming from my heart. Audiences are in for an incredible story; history, fate, courage, style, politics, glamour and sex, talent and a huge career.”
Presented by Piu Entertainment, the cabaret show has its roots in an incident early in Lemper’s career in 1988. After receiving the Moliére Award for her performance as Sally Bowles in Cabaret in Paris and after Lemper was favourably compared to Dietrich, Lemper sent a postcard message to her idol who was living in the capital at the time.
The legendary actress’ response was to call the young actress, and the three-hour conversation that followed provided the inspiration for Lemper’s very personal homage to one of the screen’s most distinctive stars.
