Producers Eva Price and Michael Harrison have confirmed the debut date and venue for the UK premiere of multi-award-winning New York musical comedy Titanique.
Inspired by James Cameron’s Oscar-winning 1997 film, the critic and crowd-pleasing musical which re-imagines the doomed cinematic romance of Rose and Jack hi-jacked by the voice of Titanic, Celine Dion, will sail into London’s Criterion Theatre from 9 December.
Announcing the imminent arrival of the musical, Price said: “Producing Titanique has been a thrill of a lifetime. I’m so grateful to have productions now happening all over the world, but I’m beyond ecstatic to be coming to the West End. London has always been the epicentre of quality, show-stopping entertainment and I couldn’t be happier than to be dropping anchor in Piccadilly Circus at the esteemed Criterion Theatre. I am thrilled Londoners will soon experience the unhinged delight that Titanique brings night after night to Americans.”
Harrison added: “When I first saw Titanique in New York, I thought it was the funniest show I had ever seen. Every time I have returned since I have only loved it more, and I was determined to bring it to London so audiences here could also be thrilled by its irresistible joy. We have found the perfect theatre to set sail, and I can’t wait to open the doors later this year.”
Co-written by Tye Blue, Marla Mindelo and Constantine Rousouli, Titanique premiered Off-Broadway at the Asylum Theater in June 2022 with co-authors Mindelle and Rousouli playing Celine Dion and Jack Dawson. An instant hit with audiences, and following several sold-out extensions, the musical transferred to its current home, the Daryl Roth Theatre in November 2022.
The musical won seven major awards during the 2022-23 theatre season, including three Lucille Lortel Awards, the Off-Broadway Alliance Award for Best New Musical, Las Culturistas’ Culture Award for Best Indoor Performance and two Dorian Awards.
Titanique is directed by co-writer Blue and choreographed by Ellenore Scott with music supervision, arrangements and orchestrations by Nicholas James Connell.
The musical will also make its debut in Canada this autumn, docking in Montreal from 27 October until 24 November before sailing into Toronto from 5 December 2024 until 12 January 2025.
