Max Bowden, Paul Jacob French and Tori Allen-Martin will star in the world premiere of a new musical based on the triple Oscar-winning film Midnight Cowboy.
Bowden (EastEnders, Birdsong) will play Rico ‘Ratzo’, alongside WhatsOnStage Awards-nominee French (Grease, Dominion Theatre, An Officer and a Gentleman, UK and Ireland tour) as Joe Buck with Allen-Martin (I Wish You Well, Edinburgh Festival Fringe/Criterion Theatre, Hair The Musical, European tour) as Cass.

Adapted by the writer of the award-winning 1998 play Frozen, Bryony Lavery, with music by triple Ivor Novello Award-winning composer Francis ‘Eg’ White, Midnight Cowboy – A New Musical will play Southwark Playhouse Elephant from 4 April until 17 May.

Based on James Leo Herlihy’s 1965 novel and the John Schlesinger-directed 1969 film which starred Jon Voight and Dustin Hoffman, the musical will bring the story of an unlikely friendship between two hustlers trying to survive on the mean streets of New York to the London stage.
Regularly cited as one of the 100 greatest American movies of all-time, Midnight Cowboy won the Best Picture Oscar at the 1970 Academy Awards, with the Best Picture Award going to Schlesinger and the Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar going to Waldo Salt.
