The 1994 Broadway musical reworking of Charles Dickens’ timeless A Christmas Carol will be this year’s seasonal offering from Wandsworth’s Lost Theatre.
Co-directed by Lost artistic director Mark Magill and Martin John Bristow, with musical direction by Randy Smartnick, A Christmas Carol – The Musical will run from 19-31 December with a press night on 21 December.
The cast will include Piers Garham, Rebecca Westberry, Jessica Finn, Rachel Dobell, Michal Horowicz and Natalie Morgan.
Based on Dickens’ timeless tale of Scrooge and his ghostly visitors, the show features music written by Alan Menken (Beauty and the Beast), with lyrics by Lynn Ahrens (Ragtime) and a book Mike Ockrent (Me and My Girl) and Ahrens, the musical was presented annually in New York from 1994 until 2003.
Some of the biggest names in entertainment took on the central role of the ultimate Christmas killjoy including F. Murray Abraham, Tim Curry, Jim Dale, Frank Langella and Roddy McDowell (in his final role).
The production was adapted for television in 2004 with Kelsey Grammar as Scrooge and Jason Alexander as Jacob Marley.
