George Stiles and Anthony Drewe will join forces with Aled Jones next Sunday (15 October) for a special event to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Watermill Theatre.
The multi award-winning writing partners will return to the venue where they worked on productions including the Olivier Award-winning Honk! and Just So early in their career, in a show that will mix music with stories about their time at the distinctive venue.
Widely seen as one of contemporary musical theatre’s most gifted writing partnerships, Stiles and Drewe have worked on a number of recent hit shows including the West End and Broadway production of Mary Poppins and the new stage versions of Half a Sixpence and The Wind in the Willows.
An Afternoon With…George Stiles and Anthony Drewe will feature the duo alongside singer and presenter Jones and special guests.
Jones shot to fame as one of the world’s most successful boy sopranos, selling more than six million records before the age of 16. After studying at the Royal Academy of Music and Bristol Old Vic he returned to the stage as Joseph in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Now an established TV presenter, Jones also has a successful recording career with-chart topping albums One Voice and One Voice At Christmas. He will release the last album in the trilogy One Voice Believe on 3 November.
Other events marking the Watermill’s 50th anniversary included the first actor-musician production of Stephen Sondheim’s haunting A Little Night Music which played the intimate Berkshire venue in the summer.
Actress Joanna Lumley will return to the venue this Thursday (12 October) for a sell-out ‘audience with’ appearance, while the Watermill’s designer, artist David Gollins, will detail why and how he converted an abandoned mill into a theatre in an event on Friday (13 October) afternoon.
Comedian and actor Alistair McGowan will talk about his career and role in the Watermill’s upcoming production of Under Milk Wood (25 October until 4 November) in an ‘audience with’ event on 1 November.
