Former X Factor winner turned musical theatre leading lady Alexandra Burke will star in the world premiere of My Best Friend’s Wedding The Musical.
Based on the hit 1990s movie that starred Julie Roberts and featured a scene-stealing performance from Rupert Everett, the musical will debut at the Plymouth Theatre Royal on 16 September 2020 ahead of a UK and Ireland tour.
Presented by Michael Harrison and David Ian, My Best Friend’s Wedding The Musical will have a book by the original screenwriter Ronald Bass and Jonathan Harvey.
Featuring the timeless songs of Burt Bacharach and Hal David, the musical which will be directed by Rachel Kavanaugh will play Plymouth from 19 September to 26 September 2020.
The tour will then head for the Palace Theatre, Manchester (29 September-3 October), Bradford Alhambra (5-10 October), Leicester Curve (13-17 October), Her Majesty’s Theatre, Aberdeen (19-24 October), Regent Theatre, Stoke on Trent (26-31 October), Bord Gais Energy Theatre, Dublin (2-7 November), Wolverhampton Grand Theatre (10-14 November), Milton Keynes Theatre (16-21 November), Lyceum Theatre, Sheffield (23-28 November) and Eastbourne’s Congress Theatre (1-5 December).
Currently starring once again as Rachel Marron in the latest touring production of The Bodyguard, Burke (Chicago, Sister Act) will take on the central role of meddling food critic Julianne Potter. Further casting and creative details will be unveiled soon.
