French musical Notre Dame De Paris will return to London next year with a limited run at the London Coliseum.
Twenty years after its Parisian debut the musical version of Victor Hugo’s classic 1831 novel will play the prestigious central London venue from Wednesday 23 until Sunday 27 January 2019.
Announcing the 20th anniversary performances, producer Nicolas Talar says: “It gives me great excitement to bring this classic tale to the London stage. Almost two centuries after the novel captured imaginations, we have now been fortunate enough to share this extraordinary story to audiences worldwide for two decades. And as an anniversary gift to show our excitement for bringing it to London, our first performance will be, we believe, the London Coliseum’s first ever one price performance at the amazing rate of £50, so we can share this story with as many people as possible. The earlier you book the better the seat you get.”
Featuring an international ensemble of singers, dancers and acrobats, the original French production will be performed with English surtitles and a live orchestra.
The musical version of Hugo’s tragic story of the hunchback bell ringer Quasimodo and the beautiful gypsy Esmeralda features music composed by Richard Cocciante with lyrics by Luc Plamondon.
Notre Dame De Paris originally debuted at the Palais des Congrès in Paris in 1998 where (according to The Guinness Book of Records) it enjoyed the most successful first year for a musical. It has since been performed in 23 countries across the world over the last two decades. The show’s West End debut in 2000 featured French Canadian singer and actor Garou returning to the role of Quasimodo and Australian pop singer Tina Arena as Esmeralda.
