Following successful London concert performances last summer, and a livestream performance in 2021, new British musical Treason will make its debut as a fully staged production at a number of theatres across the UK in October 2023.
The announcement of the plans for the first fully staged production coincide with the release of an album featuring the cast from last year’s Theatre Royal Drury Lane performances.
A fusion of original folk and pop songs, the musical re-telling of the infamous Gunpowder Plot which features a score and lyrics by Ricky Allan and a book by Kieran Lynn and Allan, the star-studded concert was directed by Hannah Chissick.
Commenting on the musical composer and lyricist Allan said: “We’re immensely grateful to those who joined us for our two sold out Drury Lane shows, we hope that ‘Plotters’ from all around the world will enjoy listening to this latest offering and we can’t wait to welcome you to the fully staged show later this year!”
‘Lighting The Fuse: Sparks From Treason In Concert’ features a 19-track selection performed by the concert cast – Carrie Hope Fletcher (Martha Percy), Bradley Jaden (Thomas Percy), Simon-Anthony Roden (Robert Catesby), Les Dennis (Robert Cecil), Emilie Louise Israel (Dorothy Wright), Rebecca LaChance (Ursula Ward), Daniel Boys (King James), Cedric Neal (Earl of Northumberland), Waylon Jacobs (Jack Wright), Adam Pearce (Thomas Wintour) and Debris Stevenson (Narrator).
Led by musical supervisor Nick Pinchbeck, the music team for the recording includes musical director Alan Berry (keyboard 1), and orchestrator Matthew Malone with additional orchestrations by Simon Nathan and music preparation by Matt Smith. The team also includes Liam Waddle (keyboard programmer), London Musical Theatre Orchestra (orchestra manager), Livi Van Warmelo (keyboard 2), Nerys Richards (cello), Hannah Lawrence (reed 1), Michael Madigan (reed 2), Dave Oxley (horn), Lewis Dunsmore (guitars), Sandy Suchodolski (bass), Matt Whittington (drums/percussion), Pierpaolo Demarchi (mix engineer) and David Preston (mastering engineer).
Treason the Musical in Concert was one of three star-studded concerts (including Chess the Musical in Concert and Kinky Boots the Musical in Concert) featuring the London Musical Theatre Orchestra presented at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane in August last year.
