New members of the West End & Juliet cast, Rhys Wilkinson, Alex Thomas-Smith and Roshani Abbey
Olivier Award-winners Miriam-Teak Lee, Cassidy Janson and David Bedella will be among a largely unchanged cast when & Juliet makes its eagerly-anticipated return to the Shaftesbury Theatre from 24 September 2021.
Best Actress Lee (Hamilton, On the Town) will return in the title role alongside Janson (Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, Chess) who collected the Best Supporting Actress award for her portrayal as Anne Hathaway and Bedella (Jerry Springer – The Opera, In The Heights) who took home the Best Supporting Actor gong for his performance as Lance.
The returning lead cast will also include Oliver Tompsett (Kinky Boots, Wicked) as William Shakespeare, Jordan Luke Gage (Bat Out of Hell, Hair The Concert) as Romeo, Melanie La Barrie (Wicked, Matilda) as Nurse and Tim Mahendran (Spring Awakening, The Hired Man) as Francois. The principal cast will be joined by Alex Thomas-Smith (Dear Evan Hansen, Bat Out of Hell) who will take on the role of May.
The ensemble includes Roshani Abbey, Jocasta Almgill, Josh Baker, Ivan De Freitas, Rhian Duncan, Kieran Lai, Nathan Lorainey-Dineen, Jaye Marshall, Grace Mouat, Antoine Murray-Straughan, Billy Nevers, Kerri Norville, Christopher Parkinson, Kirstie Skivington, Alex Tranter, Sophie Usher and Rhys Wilkinson.
As previously announced, the reopening schedule for the show which envisions a happy ending for William Shakespeare’s Juliet covers performances from 24 September until 16 October followed by a schedule covering the Christmas season and taking the show into next year (from 18 October 2021 until 12 February 2022).
Featuring the music prolific pop hit writer Max Martin, & Juliet uses Martin’s most iconic modern pop songs along with new song ‘One More Try’ to accompany a reimagined Juliet who finds a way past her doomed romance with Romeo by embarking on a whirlwind trip to Paris.
Directed by Luke Sheppard (In The Heights), the production debuted with a limited season at the Manchester Opera House in October 2019 before arriving at London’s Shaftesbury Theatre in November 2019.
With a story by David West Read, the triple Olivier Award-winning production features choreography by Jennifer Weber, set design by Soutra Gilmour and costume design by Paloma Young.
Produced by Martin Dodd, Tim Headington, Max Martin, Jenny Petersson and Theresa Steele Page, & Juliet also features the characters of Shakespeare and Anne Hathaway who take opposite sides in Juliet’s battle to change her story and discover life after Romeo.
Swedish-born songwriter and producer Martin, first made his mark in the 1990s with hits including Britney Spears’ ‘Hit Me Baby One More Time’, Bon Jovi’s ‘It’s My Life’ and The Backstreet Boys’ ‘I Want It That Way’. More recently, Martin has written or co-written hits for today’s biggest stars including Adele, Ellie Goulding, Kelly Clarkson, Usher, Taylor Swift and Pink.
