Tickets have gone on sale for the long-awaited world premiere of the theatrical incarnation of Jim Steinman’s rock classic Bat Out of Hell which is due to land in the UK next year.
With a preview run at the Manchester Opera House from 17 February until 8 April 2017, the show will receive its official opening night at the London Coliseum on 20 June, following further previews from 5 June.
The box office opened for the limited Coliseum season, which is due to run until 22 July, just hours after casting was confirmed for the show which has been four decades in the making.
American actor Andrew Polec will make his UK stage debut in the central role of Strat alongside Christina Bennington (Show Boat) as his love interest Raven.
Key roles will be played by Rob Fowler, Sharon Sexton, Aran MacRae, Danielle Steers, Dom Hartley-Harris, Giovanni Spano and Patrick Sullivan Blake.
The cast will also include: Jemma Alexander, Emily Benjamin, Stuart Boother, Georgia Carling, Natalie Chua, Jonathan Cordin, Amy Di Bartolomeo, Jordan Lee Davies, Olly Dobson, Hannah Ducharme, Phoebe Hart, Rosalind James, Michael Naylor, Eve Norris, Tim Oxbrow, Andrew Patrick-Walker, Benjamin Purkiss, Anthony Selwyn, Courtney Stapleton and Ruben Van keer.
Directed by the previously announced innovative theatre and opera director Jay Scheib, Bat Out of Hell – The Musical has a book by Steinman and Stuart Beattie, music and lyrics by Steinman, with choreography by Emma Portner, musical arrangements and supervision by Michael Reed, set design by Jon Bausor, costume design by Meentje Nielsen, video design by Finn Ross, lighting design by Patrick Woodroffe, sound design by Gareth Owen, orchestration by Steve Sidwell, casting by David Grindrod Associates and musical direction by Robert Emery.
Jim Steinman’s Bat Out of Hell – The Musical is produced by David Sonenberg, Michael Cohl, Randy Lennox, Tony Smith, and produced in association with Bat Out of Hell Holding Limited.
One of the biggest-selling albums of all time, the 1977 collaboration between songwriter Steinman and vocalist Meat Loaf, will form the basis for a major stage show.
Although the ground-breaking album will form the basis for the new show, it will actually mark a return to the work’s original genre – musical theatre.
Conceived as a futuristic Peter Pan-style piece entitled Neverland, Steinman’s creation actually started life as a musical written for a workshop in 1974.
Billed as a ‘romantic adventure about rebellious youth and passionate love’, the new show will feature over 20 of Steinman’s distinctive songs.
Steinman’s previous forays into musical theatre include his collaboration with Andrew Lloyd Webber on Whistle Down the Wind, and his musical Tanz der Vampire (Dance of the Vampire), based on Roman Polanski’s cult classic The Fearless Vampire Killers, which was recently revived in Berlin, St Petersburg and Moscow.
