Bournemouth’s Shelley Theatre will premiere a new female-centric musical comedy about the endless battle to keep the wrinkles at bay.
Produced by local company Encore Theatre and written by Bournemouth-based writer Lisa Gaye Wright, Botox Or Bust will play three performances at the Shelley Theatre from 21-23 March 2019.
Featuring an all-female cast of ten, the spoof musical focusses on Madeline Green, a woman who will try anything to stave off the effects of approaching middle-age.
Based on Wright’s on-woman Fringe show Tales From The Hourglass, Botox Or Bust will feature Encore Theatre Productions founder Joanne Mansfield in the central role of Madeline.
Commenting on her latest creation, Wright, whose previous work includes Loose Change which debuted in Bournemouth in 2010, said: “ ‘The perfect woman is a corporate conspiracy, she is a myth, she is hype and illusion, a commodity that doesn’t exist’ – are the lyrics that best sum up the theme of the piece which has female camaraderie and companionship at its heart. I think the subject matter is topical and relevant and I hope will resonate with men and women.”
The production’s director Laura Ward commented: “I am thrilled to be working with a talented all-female cast on Lisa Gaye Wright’s show. I’m equally excited to be working alongside the whole team at Encore and bringing this production to one of my favourite theatres.”
