Innovative family musical adventure Where Is Peter Rabbit? will be hopping into London’s West End this Easter.
Following two successful seasons at the Old Laundry Theatre in the heart of the Lake District, the show which adds the wit of one of our leading playwrights Alan Ayckbourn to the timeless magic of Beatrix Potter, will play the Theatre Royal Haymarket from 3-28 April 2019.
Featuring the voices of stage and screen stars Miriam Margolyes and Griff Rhys Jones and combining live performance, projection and recorded material the show received its world premiere at the distinctive venue in Bowness-on-Windermere in 2016.
The brainchild of the owners of The World Of Beatrix Potter Attraction, renowned theatre set designer Roger Glossop and his theatre producer wife, Charlotte Scott, the show brings to life some of Potter’s best-loved characters.
With long-time friend and associate Ayckbourn helping transform Potter’s words into lyrics, the couple enlisted composer Steven Edis to provide the music.
Devised by Glossop and directed and choreographed by Sheila Carter, the innovative show lovingly re-creates the literary world of the author whose creations have enchanted generations.
The production features a live cast along with the recordings of Jones reading the tales of Peter Rabbit and Jeremy Fisher and Margolyes who lends her voice to the stories of Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle and Jemima Puddle-Duck.
Commenting on the project, Jones said: “The characters and the strange life of animals are so well observed by Beatrix Potter and not just in her beautiful illustrations. I don’t think we cherish things quite as much as we do children’s books, handed down like golden gems; and it’s remarkable to think that these stories are still so loved.”
Margoyles added: “The characters leap into your heart. There is a directness and a freshness that comes through the text and they will live for all time. It’s a window back into childhood.”
