Cult crime series Breaking Bad is the subject of a new musical parody which will debut at London’s Theatre N16 next month.
Created by Rob Gathercole, Say My Name! (The Unauthorised Breaking Bad Parody Musical) will play the North London venue from 14 October until 2 November 2018 with a press night on 16 October.
Timed to coincide with the tenth anniversary of the show which became a ‘box set binge’ favourite, the show condenses the 62-hour, five season, multi-award winner into one 90-minute musical comedy.
Revealing details of his show, writer and composer Gathercole said: “I’m such a massive fan of the show, and can think of no better way to pay tribute to it than by shamelessly ripping it off and adding loads of jokes and songs.”
Performed by six actor-musicians including Gathercole as lawyer Saul, the show offers a new look at the story of the chemistry teacher turned drug dealer Walter whose story captured the imagination of viewers on both sides of the Atlantic.
The company which largely consists of graduates from Rose Bruford College’s unique actor-musician course will use a wide variety of musical instruments to perform an original score that mixes a wide range of styles from country to swing.
Starring Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul, Breaking Bad debuted in the US in January 2008. Running until September 2013, the series’ impressive awards tally included 16 Primetime Emmy Awards.
