Love Island’s Dani Dyer joins her father in London run of Nativity The Musical

Love Island winner Dani Dyer will end her winning year by joining her EastEnder father Danny Dyer for the London run of Nativity The Musical.

Dyer, who previously appeared alongside her father in four British feature films, will make her stage debut playing the aspiring actress daughter of her father’s character in the show, Hollywood Producer Lewis Parker.

Announcing the latest piece of casting news, director Debbie Isitt said, “I made Nativity! The Musical to give families the opportunity to watch a funny and touching Christmas musical together – and like with the films – we have created a family in the making of the show.

“Bringing the brilliant Danny Dyer together with his gorgeous daughter Dani on stage will be great fun for audiences and highlight how important families are at Christmas time. I’m really excited to work with them both – it is going to be a lot of fun! Children, animals and two Dyers? Bring on the sparkle and shine!”

Commenting on her latest role, Dyer Jnr said: “I am so excited to make my stage debut in Nativity! and with my dad! It is going to be so much fun and will be lovely for us to be in a musical together at Christmas time, I just can’t wait.”

Due to hit the road again from October ahead of its return visit to London’s Eventim Apollo for an extended Christmas run, the hit stage version of the much-loved film will open at the Belgrade Theatre, Coventry on 23 October 2018.

The show is due to visit Liverpool, Glasgow, Milton Keynes, Nottingham, Edinburgh, Stoke, and Oxford before finishing the tour with its Christmas run at the Eventim Apollo, Hammersmith from 19 until 31 December.

Simon Lipkin will play scene-stealing Mr Poppy alongside Scott Garnham as Mr Maddens and Ashleigh Gray as Jennifer Lore.

Dyer Snr is one of a number of soap stars due to take on the role of the Hollywood Producer at different venues during the tour. Dyers’ fellow EastEnders Charlie Brooks and Jake Wood will play the Producer in Nottingham and Oxford respectively, while former Emmerdale regular Adam Thomas will make his stage debut in the show in Liverpool and again in Stoke. Comedy favourite Jo Brand is also due to guest star as The Critic (a role played by comedian Alan Carr in the film) during the London run and when the tour reaches Edinburgh.

Produced by Jamie Wilson, Entertainment One, Ramin Sabi and Belgrade Theatre Coventry, the world premiere run of the musical version of the hit 2009 festive family tale of the ultimate school Nativity play made its debut at Birmingham Repertory Theatre in October 2017.

Already a staple of the Christmas TV schedules, the film version of Nativity! starred a pre-Sherlock Martin Freeman as teacher Mr Maddens who reluctantly takes on the job of producing a musical Nativity with the help of the exuberant Mr Poppy and a host of enthusiastic kids.

Written and directed by the film’s creator Isitt with music and lyrics by Nicky Ager and Isitt, the production is choreographed by Andrew Wright and designed by David Woodhead. Lighting design is by Tim Mitchell with sound design by Tom Marshall and musical supervision and orchestrations by George Dyer.
