The Broadway musical version of hit teen film Bring It On will head out on a UK and Ireland tour following its Christmas season at the Southbank Centre’s Queen Elizabeth Hall.
As previously announced, the Tony-nominated tale of duelling cheerleaders will arrive in London for a festive run from 8 December 2021 until 22 January 2022 after playing eight performances at the New Theatre in Peterborough (30 November until 4 December).
Launching at the Wolverhampton Grand Theatre on 26 January 2022, the touring production will then visit Southampton, Edinburgh, Blackpool, Aberdeen, Manchester, Cheltenham, Nottingham, Birmingham, Dublin, Woking, Sheffield, Cardiff, Sunderland, Glasgow, Bradford and Milton Keynes.
Presented by Selladoor Worldwide, Bring It On The Musical stars former Love Islander Amber Davies who will follow her professional stage debut in 9 to 5 The Musical by starring alongside quadruple Olympic medalist and former Strictly Come Dancing champion Louis Smith (Rip It Up, West End and tour) in his musical theatre debut as Cameron. Davies will play Campbell, a role she previously played while training at London’s Urdang Academy. Full casting will be announced soon.
Bring It On The Musical is directed by Guy Unsworth with choreography by Fabian Aloise, set design by Libby Watson, costume design by Susan Kulkarni, lighting design by Matt Daw, sound design by Ross Portway, music supervision by Mark Crossland and musical direction from Sarah Burrell. The creative team will also include Danny MacDonald as acrobatic director and Aundrea Fudge as dialect coach.
Written by the multi-award-winning creator of Hamilton Lin-Manuel Miranda, Tony Award winner Jeff Whitty (Avenue Q), Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winner Tom Kitt (Next to Normal) and Broadway lyricist Amanda Green (High Fidelity), Bring It On is loosely based on the 2000 film of the same name written by Jessica Bendinger which has so far spawned five small screen sequels.
The musical debuted in Atlanta, Georgia in 2011 with Tina star Adrienne Warren among the cast. A US national tour followed which culminated in the production’s Broadway debut in 2012. The show was originally due to make its UK and European debut in 2017. Before the pandemic the musical had been due to begin its first UK and Ireland tour in June 2020.
