The new UK and Ireland touring production of The Addams Family, A Musical Comedy will make its delayed return to the road this summer.
Originally due to be back on the road in the UK and Ireland last summer, the gothic musical comedy will now launch at Woking’s New Victoria Theatre from 17 August 2021.
Presented by Katy Lipson for Aria Entertainment and Music & Lyrics Limited, the production will be directed by the director of the successful first UK and Ireland tour in 2017, Matthew White (The Producers, Mr Stink UK tours).
As planned the cast will be headed by former EastEnder Samantha Womack (South Pacific, Barbican) returning as Addams family’ matriarch Morticia, the role which launched her post-Albert Square career. Womack will reunite with Cameron Blakeley (Les Misérables, Queen’s Theatre, Rock of Ages, UK tour) who will once again play family patriarch Gomez.
They will be joined by Kingsley Morton as Wednesday Addams, Grant McIntyre as Pugsley Addams, Valda Aviks as Grandma, Sean Kingsley as Mal Beineke and Kara Lane as Alice Beineke. With further casting to be announced, the cast will also include Abigail Brodie, Sophie Hutchinson, Luke Byrne, Matthew Ives and Sean Lopeman.
Featuring a book by the creators of the multi award-winning Jersey Boys, Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice, with music and lyrics by Andrew Lippa (Big Fish), the production is choreographed by Alistair David with production design by Diego Pitarch, orchestrations by Richard Beadle, lighting design by Ben Cracknell, sound design by Richard Brooker and casting by Jane Deitch.
The 2021/2022 tour will follow its opening run in Woking by visiting Milton Keynes. Dartford, Salford, Glasgow, Stoke, Liverpool, Nottingham, Cardiff, Sheffield, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Bradford, Newcastle, Oxford and Bromley. Further tour dates will be announced soon.
Based on the much-loved characters created by Charles Addams, the original Broadway production opened on Broadway in 2010. Starring Nathan Lane as Gomez and Bebe Neuwirth as Morticia, the multi-million-dollar production won four Broadway.com audience awards. The Broadway production closed at the end of 2011 and there were a number of international and touring productions of the show including a US tour also in 2011 and a European premiere in Sweden in 2012.
