Australia will become the first territory outside of the US to premiere the hit Broadway musical based on Alanis Morissette’s seminal album ‘Jagged Little Pill’.
Presented by Vivek J. Tiwary, Arvind Ethan David, Eva Price, Howard Panter for Trafalgar Entertainment and GWB Entertainment, the musical which has been nominated for 15 Tony Awards will be the reopening production this September at the Theatre Royal Sydney following a multi-million dollar refurbishment programme.

Featuring lyrics by Morissette with music by Morissette and six-time Grammy Award winner Glenn Ballard, Jagged Little Pill features an original story by Diablo Cody, the Oscar-winning screenwriter who made her Broadway debut with the musical. Directed by the Tony Award-winning director of Waitress, Diana Paulus, movement direction and choreography for the musical is by Olivier Award winner Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui with music supervision, orchestrations and arrangements by Tony and Pulitzer Prize winner Tom Kitt.
In addition to the music from its namesake album, ‘Jagged Little Pill’, also features songs from Morissette’s entire catalogue including tracks from the 1998 album, ‘Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie’ and from the soundtrack of the film City of Angels. Morissette also wrote two new songs for the musical, ‘Smiling’ and ‘Predator’.
The winner of the 2021 Grammy Award for Best Musical Album, Jagged Little Pill opened on Broadway in December 2019 following a record-breaking, sold-out world premiere at the American Repertory Theatre. With just a few performances under its belt before the Covid closedown, the show was already established as a critic and crowd-pleaser. The musical received the highest number of Tony Award-nominations for the season in categories including Best Musical, Best Director and Best Choreography.
Twenty five years after Morissette’s ground-breaking album was released, ‘Jagged Little Pill’ continues to be one of the Top 20 Best-Selling Albums of All Time. Released on June 13 1995, the worldwide success of the album ensured Morissette became the bestselling debut international debut artist in history – a title the Canadian singer/songwriter still holds.
