Details of the ensemble cast and full creative team for the world premiere of April de Angelis and Lucy Rivers’ Gin Craze! at the Royal & Derngate next month have been announced.
Directed by Michael Oakley, the cast for the 18th century set satire includes: Debbie Chazen (The Girls, West End), Rosalind Ford (Once, UK tour), Aruhan Galieva (King John, Royal & Derngate and Shakespeare’s Globe), Paula James (The Snow Queen, Park Theatre), Alex Mugnaioni (Captain Corelli’s Mandolin, Rose Theatre, Kingston and West End), Peter Pearson (Welcome to the UK, The Bunker), Paksie Vernon (The Watsons, Chichester Festival Theatre/Menier Chocolate Factory) and Rachel Winters (A Christmas Carol, Royal Shakespeare Company).
Co-produced by Royal & Derngate, Northampton and China Plate in partnership with English Touring Theatre, the Made in Northampton production will take to the Royal stage from 17 to 31 July.
With a book and lyrics by De Angelis (My Brilliant Friend, National Theatre) and music and lyrics by Rivers (The Bloody Ballad, Gagglebabble), the irreverent new musical inspired by the women of Gin Lane is produced by Royal & Derngate’s musical theatre producer Tess Dowdeswell.
The creative team for the production also includes designer Hayley Grindle, music supervisor and arranger Tamara Saringer, choreographer Paul Isles, lighting designer Jack Knowles, sound designer Tony Gayle, assistant director Tian Brown-Sampson, fight director Alison de Burgh, casting director Matilda James and dramaturg Victoria Saxton.
Gin Craze! is one of a number of Made in Northampton productions developed as part of a three-year project involving a national consortium of partners led by Royal & Derngate in support of 150 artists.
