New Adventures has announced the full cast and tour dates for the eagerly-awaited 30th anniversary production of Matthew Bourne’s Nutcracker! which is due to make its Covid-delayed debut at the Theatre Royal Plymouth on 15 November 2021.
Featuring a mix of New Adventures favourites and a number of company newcomers, Nutcracker! will star Cordelia Braithwaite and Katrina Lyndon as Clara with Ashley Shaw and Monique Jonas as Princess Sugar, Harrison Dowzell, Ben Brown and Reece Causton in the title role, and Dominic North, James Lovell and Stephen Murray as Fritz. The formidable Dr Dross will be played by Neil Westmoreland, Reece Causton and Danny Reubens with his wife, Mrs Dross, performed by Madelaine Brennan, Daisy May Kemp and Steph Billers.
The citizens of Sweetieland will be played by New Adventures dancers Jonathon Luke Baker, Benjamin Barlow Bazeley, Alistair Beattie, Isaac Peter Bowry, Kayla Collymore, Keenan Fletcher, Cameron Flynn, Rose Goddard, Shoko Ito, Harry Ondrak-Wright, Catrin Thomas and Bryony Wood.
Jade Copas, Jessica Crompton, Gabrielle de Souza, Kurumi Kamayachi and Rory Macleod will all make their New Adventures debuts along with the company’s first emerging artist apprentice, Enrique Ngbokota. (The apprenticeship is supported by The Archie Lloyd Charitable Foundation).
Originally due to open in late 2020 ahead of the show’s 18th consecutive festive season at Sadler’s Wells, the newly designed and re-imagined production of the classic Christmas fairy tale will follow its opening run in Plymouth with dates at The Lowry in Salford (23 November to 4 December) before dancing into London’s Sadler’s Wells from 7 December 2021 until 30 January 2022. The UK tour will resume on 1 February 2022 at the Bristol Hippodrome with tour dates scheduled up to 23 April 2022.
New Adventures has also unveiled a new partnership with Fortnum & Mason which will involve a window at the iconic Piccadilly store being transformed into the magical world of The Nutcracker! by the production’s designer Anthony Ward. As part of the partnership, The Nutcracker! will provide the inspiration for Fortnum & Mason’s Christmas advertising campaign which will include advertisements featuring characters from the production exploring the store at night and special sweet creations in The Parlour and the Diamond Jubilee Tea Salon. During the Christmas season £1 from each Knickerbocker Glory purchased at Fortnum & Mason will be donated to further New Adventures’ engagement work with young people and communities.
Matthew Bourne and New Adventures have produced some of the most successful dance productions of the last three decades. A national, dance theatre touring company and one of Britain’s leading exporters of dance internationally, hit productions include Swan Lake, Cinderella, The Red Shoes, Edward Scissorhands, the acclaimed re-imagining of Romeo and Juliet and the recent world premiere of The Midnight Bell.
