2020 graduate Amelia Kinu Muus will be the Beauty to Stanton Wright’s Beast in a new version of the classic tale of Beauty and the Beast at the Rose Theatre in Kingston upon Thames this Christmas.
Central School of Speech and Drama graduate Muus whose professional credits in her native Austria include roles in productions of West Side Story and Chicago, will play Bella opposite Wright (All Or Nothing, Arts Theatre and UK tour, Pictures of Dorian Gray, Jermyn St Theatre) as the Beast. They will be joined by Daniel Goode (Mamma Mia! Prince of Wales Theatre, Peter Pan Goes Wrong, Apollo Theatre and UK tour) as René/Heureux, Paula James (Gin Craze! Royal & Derngate Theatre, The Snow Queen, Park Theatre) as Marguerite/Rousette and Oliver Senton (Alice in Wonderland, A Christmas Carol, Rose Theatre, Kingston) as Francesco.
The cast will be completed by members of the Rose Youth Theatre including Amelie Abbott, Nosike Akinniboson, Georgia Anderson, Emily Baldwin, Jack Bartlett, Rory Brandreth McConnachie, Joey Burke, Cecily Cleave, Annie Coles, Rosa Cowper, Akira Dias Nagahwatte, Joshua Fernandes, Ronnie Flynn, Alexander Forster, Eva Gough, Isla Griffiths, Hannah Grigg, Cameron Hardcastle, Tom Hardman, Rhianna Jackson, Trisha Kashyap, Neri Keshet, Rebeca Lanaway Gonzalez, Amy Lawrence, Jemima Leason, Lily Licorish, Breanna Merritt, Phoebe Morley, Chloe Nichols, Sophie O’Hare, Alessia Perugi, Cathra Plant, Eva Rouse, Amelie Scott, Ellie Searl, Holly Slade, Maximilian Strain, Christina Taylor, Jacob Towey, Amelie Tu, Tait Walsingham, Ren Walsingham, Amber Westgate, Nathaniel Williams, Megan Wilson and Leah Wingfield.
Written by Ciaran McConville (The Snow Queen) with music and lyrics by Eamonn O’Dwyer (Hansel and Gretel), the re-imagining of the much-loved French fairy-tale by Jeanne-Marie Leprince de Beaumon will play the West London venue from 3 December 2021 until 3 January 2022.
Director Lucy Morrell (Treasure Island) will head a creative team that includes set designer Frankie Bradshaw, costume designer Peter Todd, sound designer George Dennis, associate director and voice and dialect coach Josh Mathieson and choreographer Aimee Leigh.
The Rose Original Production’s composer O’Dwyer will serve as musical director alongside associate musical director Jody Robinson. Casting is by Lucy Jenkins and Sooki McShane.
There will be an audio described performance on 18 December, a relaxed performance on 30 December, and a BSL performance and a captioned performance on 2 January 2022.
