Casting has been announced for Theatr Clwyd’s world premiere production of The Assassination of Katie Hopkins which is due to open at the Emlyn Williams Theatre in Mold next month.
Announced by Theatr Clwyd’s artistic director Tamara Harvey, the production will feature: Rakesh Boury (The Wind in the Willows, London Palladium), Ché Francis (The Toxic Avenger, Arts Theatre), Derek Hutchinson (Amadeus, Chichester Festival Theatre), Genesis Lynea (In The Heights, King’s Cross Theatre), Maimuna Memon (Jesus Christ Superstar, Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre), Amy Booth-Steele (A Pacifist Guide To The War On Cancer, National Theatre), Bethzienna Williams (professional stage debut) and Matthew Woodyatt (War Horse, National Theatre).
Known for the 2007 TONY! The Blair Musical, Chris Bush has turned her attention to TV personality and controversial broadcaster and columnist Katie Hopkins for the musical which will run from 20 April until 12 May with a press night on 26 April.
With words by Bush and music by Matt Winkworth, The Assassination of Katie Hopkins uses the fictional off-screen murder of the outspoken celebrity who first found fame on TV’s The Apprentice to offer an exploration of free speech and public outrage in the digital world.
Director James Grieve leads a creative team that includes designer Lucy Osborne, musical supervisor/orchestrator David White, LX designer Oliver Fenwick, sound designer Dominic Kennedy, musical director Jordan Li-Smith, movement director Lucy Hind and video/projection designer Nina Dunn.
