Tickets have gone on sale for Nuffield Southampton Theatres’ workshop production of Son of Rambow The Musical which will play London’s Other Palace later this year.
Produced in association with The Other Palace and based on the cult family film, the musical Son of Rambow features original 1980s style music by the songwriting team of Miranda Cooper and Nick Coler and a book by playwright and performer Richard Marsh.
Directed by Nuffield Theatres’ Samuel Hodges, the work in progress production will play The Other Palace as part of the venue’s popular development programme from 22 May until 2 June.
Commenting on the production, Hodges said: “Developing new musicals is an important part of NST’s future commissioning strategy and this is a project which I’ve been developing with our talented writing team for some time.
“It’s a beautiful story which grapples with important themes – family, faith, friendship and with a cracking 80s pop soundtrack by the hit-machine that is Miranda Cooper and her long-time collaborator Nick Coler, with this marking their first ever theatre project.
“Workshop productions are a totally new way of testing material for us and I’m looking forward to developing this brilliant score and script in collaboration with an audience, for the very first time.”
The Other Palace’s artistic director Paul Taylor-Mills added: “I’m delighted to be working with Sam and his team at Nuffield Southampton Theatre on the Work In Progress of Son of Rambow.
“I know developing new musicals is an important part of NST’s work and to host them at the home for all things musical theatre is an absolute honour. Come along, watch, feedback, and be part of the future of a new British musical.”
