Zubin Varia and Robert Tripolino will complete the cast of the UK concert premiere of Zorro at London’s Cadogan Hall on 23 February.
Recently seen in Ghost Quartet at the Boulevard Theatre, Olivier Award nominee Varla (Fun Home, Young Vic) will play Don Alejandro alongside Afonso (High Fidelity, Turbine Theatre, Jesus Christ Superstar, Barbican) as Ramon.
They will join the previously announced Ricardo Afonso (We Will Rock You and Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown) as Zorro/Diego and Broadway’s Lesli Margherita (Matilda, Dames At Sea) who will reprise her Olivier Award-winning performance as Inez. The concert will also feature another star of the 2008 West End production of the show, four-time Olivier nominated actress Emma Williams (Half A Sixpence, Mrs Henderson Presents), who will return to the role of Luisa.
The cast will be accompanied by the London Musical Theatre Orchestra chorus featuring Catalina Amaral, Daniel Amity, Charlotte Clitherow, Richard James-King, Danny Lane, James Leeman, Lauren Lockley, Matthew McDonald, Mia Michaud, Grace Mouat, Rebecca Ridout, Justine Saville, Margarida Silva, Joe Thompson-Oubari, Richard Upton and Enrico Volpi.
Produced by Darren Bell for Club 11 London and Brian Zeilinger & Jack Maple for Take Two Theatricals, the concert will be staged by Annabel Mutale Reed with musical direction by Freddie Tapner working with his London Musical Theatre Orchestra.
With music by the Gypsy Kings with additional compositions, orchestrations and arrangements by John Cameron, and a book and lyrics by Stephen Clark, Zorro is inspired by Chilean writer Isabel Allende’s 2005 fictional biography for the masked folk hero who has also featured in two hit movies starring Antonio Banderas.
