Earl Carpenter and Daniel Boys will complete the line-up of West End stars assembled for the special charity performance of Boublil and Schönberg’s The Pirate Queen at the London Coliseum later this month.
Carpenter, whose extensive musical theatre credits include leading roles in Les Misérables, The Phantom of the Opera, Sunset Boulevard and Evita, will play the title character’s widowed father Dubhdara. Boys, whose own genre credits include Avenue Q, The Boys in the Band and Falsettos, will play Queen Elizabeth I’s advisor and confidante Lord Bingham.
The duo will join the previously announced Rachel Tucker (Come From Away, Wicked), Hannah Waddingham (Kiss Me Kate), Steph Parry (42nd Street), Emma Norman (Acorn Antiques The Musical), Britain’s Got Talent 2011 winner Jai McDowall and Matthew Pagan from Britain’s Got Talent 2014 winning group Collabro, for the concert on 23 February 2020.
With proceeds going to Leukaemia UK, the featured ensemble will include: Pearce Barron, Jamie Birkett, Trudi Camilleri, Sabrina Carter, Shaun Dalton, Adam Dawson, Callum Heinrich, Jade Johnson, Harry Mills, Charlotte Payne, Sophie Reeves and Jak Skelly.
The ensemble is made up of Skye Adams, Thomas Ball, Jeremy Batt, Mary-Jean Caldwell, Sinead O Callaghan, Christopher Cameron, Jordan Castle, Alfie Doohan, Charlie Ellerton, Judicel Eslao, Nicola Espallardo, Amy Everett, Lois Morgan Gay, Aidan Harkins, Siwan Henderson, Hannah-Grace Lawson, James Mateo-Salt, Scarlett Maltman, Ethan Tanner, Harry Winchester and Cristian Zaccarini.
The Pirate Queen will mark performer turned agent Tom Gribby’s debut as producer. Directed by Drew Baker with design by Ben M Rogers, the concert presentation will mark the London debut of the show which debuted on Broadway in 2007.
The most recent musical from the writers of Les Misérables and Miss Saigon, Claude-Michel Schönberg and Alain Boublil, The Pirate Queen features music by Schönberg and lyrics by Boublil, Richard Maltby, Jr, and John Dempsey.
Based on the novel Grania – She King of the Irish Seas by Morgan Llewelyn, the musical story of Grace O’Malley, the 16th Century Irish woman who took on the might of Queen Elizabeth I, features a book by Boublil and Schönberg and Maltby, Jr.
Following a Chicago try-out in 2006, The Pirate Queen arrived on Broadway in 2007 with Wicked’s original US touring Elphaba, Tony Award-winner Stephanie J. Block (The Cher Show) starring alongside Hadley Fraser (Les Misérables).
